Hello there! Your boy Daniel is here to make you think and feel something. And I think we all know there are a lot of feelings being felt these days. I can’t even count how many times I’ve mentioned uncertainty in these issues, but that’s because we’re living through arguably the weirdest time in human history.
While tough times make you tougher, it doesn’t make it any easier to actually live through the challenging moments as they’re defining you; the contrast of life can be really extreme and, let’s be honest, it can get a bit annoying.
Around the world there are people in positions of power who make people feel powerless and I don’t know about you, but I’m over it. It’s time to take back our power – and the fastest and easiest way to do that is through the power of perspective.
Luckily, you’ve got me for that.
tuning into what’s true
It should go without saying (yet here I am saying it!) that when $#!% is hitting the fan, you may want to turn off the fan… or at least turn it down.
While finding calm in the chaos can feel like an unattainable goal, it is, in fact, possible. We have the energetic (and free!) tools of gratitude and appreciation at our disposal. Is it hard to access them when we’re in a tailspin? Sure. But do gratitude and appreciation make everything feel lighter and brighter? Absolutely.
That said, sometimes we need to play the “worst case scenario” game just to get a grip on what’s probably not going to happen to us. Sometimes we just need to let our lil’ monkey brain spin out for a minute so we can realize how silly it’s being.
Then, when we get settled and centered we can get honest about what’s really happening. Most of the time our fears are rooted in uncertainty, and uncertainty is rooted in things that haven’t f*n happened yet! So stop feeding that narrative!
Usually, things are much more manageable than we let ourselves believe. How do I know that? Cause you’re reading this, which means you ain’t dead yet. As I always say – if you woke up today, you can handle it… because you’re here to handle it.
Yes, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Yes, it can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
But it doesn’t serve us well to focus solely on what’s going wrong. No matter what, there’s always a way to find gratitude and appreciation.
Even if you’re caught in the weeds and the only positive thing you can grasp onto is “I will learn and grow from this” – that’s a pretty bad-ass stance to take in the face of adversity. And how amazing is it that we can use the $#!% from the $#!% show to fertilize our flowers.
What’s true is that you’ve got what it takes to make it through anything. Life will always knock you down, but you can always stand up. Stand tall and don’t ever sell yourself short.
And remember that when life gets hard, it’s best time to take it easy on yourself.
making your nervous system less nervous
It should go without saying (yet here I am saying it!) that when $#!% is hitting the fan, you may want to turn the fan off. Sometimes when there’s too much spinning and not enough stillness, our bodies and minds can max out on their capacity to keep cool.
With all the overwhelm and overthinking, we need to remember that our beautiful brain is always just trying to protect us – but that sometimes means operating in “fight or flight” when we’re not actually in any life-threatening danger. That’s why it’s so important to take care of your nervous system – the more you focus on keeping it calm, the more it can focus on keeping you calm.
Humans are super interesting – when there’s a lot going on in our lives, the default reaction seems to be to do more… so in the interest of taking action, let’s reframe that:
Slowing down is still an action. Taking action can mean taking a break.
Trust me – I deal with frazzled nervous systems for a living. I’ve got 3 years under my belt (by the way, we just celebrated 3 years of Vortex!) so I consider myself an expert in instant transformation through self care.
Investing in time for yourself to relax, reset and recharge is an investment that pays some major dividends. We are able to recalibrate our systems, take some deep breaths, recharge our battery and move forward with full power.
checking in before choosing
Making decisions from a place of fear, scarcity or lack, is like building a sandcastle in a hurricane – that S#!% ain’t gonna last.
That’s why it’s so important to give yourself the time and space to take care of yourself and get into a zone of promise, possibility and imagination; every step we take is informed by the intention behind that first movement – and it’s a great idea to make sure we’re in as good a place as possible before we start moving.
Instead of screaming and running away from the life we don’t want, we can get into a state of calm and then reflect on who want to be, where we want to go, and what the next intuitive step to take is.
I know, it’s tricky sometimes when life is coming at you fast, but we’re not on a damn game show… there’s no buzzer that’s going to time you out. I don’t care who you are, you’ve got 5 minutes to sit down, inhale, regroup, exhale, and keep carrying on. We owe it to ourselves to take a beat and create from a space of clarity and intention instead of chaos and concern.
And if you’re struggling with timing and feeling like you’re racing against the clock to get moving in your life and figure out what the next steps need to be, it’s worth waiting until you’re able to be in a state of goodness before you make any big moves.
You’ve got that ability to keep a solid grip on life, even when it feels like you’re hanging on by a thread. All you need is the time and space to reflect, relax and recharge. And I know a great place that makes that easy, fast and fun for you… but you don’t have to come to Vortex to reset your system. You’ve got your breath, your brain, your heartbeat and the power of perspective – and that’s really all you really need to navigate this rocky road called life.
Much love!
